Working with Clay
Coil, pinch, fire, glaze or just play with clay in this short course.
I've been a practising Artist for over thirty years making sculptural mixed media objects and exhibiting in galleries both in the UK and abroad.
I'm a trained teacher and over the years I've been lucky enough to work with a real variety of people, from tiny ones in schools, to elders, special needs and degree level. I made ceramic underwear for a fashion designer, worn by Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga. Whilst teaching at Brighton, a young Rachel Whiteread was one of my students. I also recently did face-casting for British rock band, The Futureheads.
My personal work is now environmental in its concerns and often takes the form of installations. I use found materials, 2D imagery and text to create my work, occasionally some video and sound , but generally keeping working methods low tech and non wasteful.
I continue my clay work, which tend to have conceptual ideas and meaning beyond its physical form. An interest in sociology, psychology, ecology, fairy tales and fables has shaped much of the work. I love working directly with the human body through casting and 3D scanning and would love to pass on some of that knowledge.
