My life is a story of two halves. I spent the first half as a roadie, tour manager, and crew chief. For The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and 29 other bands, over 2 decades from the 1960s. You could say I had access to excess.

But in 1989, life on the road had to end, and I found myself starting a new career as a gardener, and since then, from fifteen acre fields, to private gardens, to commercial properties, to window boxes, and everything in between, there's not a space that I haven't worked with.

My approach to gardening is to make it simple, to get rid of the jargon and to focus on making the world around us a prettier place to live. It's really not that difficult to find out what works where. Nature doesn't need to be complicated.

What I love about my job is that each project is new, yet as you get older, you can draw on your experience and start to see patterns in the task ahead. My favourite job is always the next one, every day is a new adventure.

I have no professional qualifications as a gardener, my teacher has been a lifetime of experience!
